On 13 Jun 1782 deed book 7, page 550 Albemalr Co Virginia, William Sr. and Mary Spears sold 100 acres in Albemarle Co for 400 pounds to George Dudley. All were then residents of Albemarle Co. This land was part of a larger parcel that Spears had bought earlier from a Henry Harper. On 19 Dec 1796 Deed book 13; page 112 Albemarle Co Virginia, William Spears of Elbert Co. Georgia (son of James Spears)sold 100 acres in Albemarle Co. VA for 50 dollars to John Sneed of Albemarle Co. VA. This parcel of land was originally an inheritance by said James Spears by the Will of Peter Jefferson in 1757. On the Albemale Co Road orders 1783-1816. "15 October 1784 N.S., Ord. Bk. 1783-85, p.265; Ordered that Hopkins Lewis by appointed overseer of the road from Colo Olds Forge, to the branch by James Jones's and that he have for his gang, Jeremiah Hamner, Thomas Jones, William, James & Samuel Spear's, Ephraim Bowing and Sons & William Leak with their & his own male Labouring Titheables." It is believed by the researcher that the James Spears, William Spears, and Samuel Spears mentioned in the foregoing information are family related. It is proven that William Spears and Samuel Spears moved to Elbert Co. Georgia in the late 1790's. It seems William remained in Georgia. Samuel Spears born 1760 Albemarle County Virginia moved to Bedford County Tennessee where he filed for and received a pension for his revolutionary war service. He died there in 1837 leaving his land to his son John T. Spears. |
